Faces of Steep from the Past

Faces of Steep from the Past

All of these were once familiar faces in Steep, but have now moved on or died. It’s good to remember them here. If you have more photographs of other people who could be added to this section, please get in touch and send them in, so that they can be added. See Contact section.

Left to right Alan Nolan, Mary Nolan, Audrey Mabbatt, Anton Foster, Gertrude Marshall, Jo Foster, Ann Kenny, small girl possibly Racheal Kenny
Taken at Bedales. 1970s Thank you to Danny Nolan for photograph

The Nolan and Kenny families lived at Hays Cottages. The Fosters lived in Church Road next door to Steep shop. Audrey and Gertrude were gardeners, they lived at Little Hawsted bungalow.

1970 Steep. The tombola stall, possibly at Steep Flower Show when it was held in Bedales Quad

In the above photo, Danny Nolan is the small boy at the tombola with his mother Mary Nolan, behind, looking at him. The lady looking at the camera may be a Mrs Joan Crocker who lived at 21 Church Road. The girl with the headband may be her daughter.

Is the man running the stall possibly Bill Jarman? Do you recognise any others? Please let us know if you can put names to faces.
