The Pretty family ran Steep Stores and Post Office in 1960-70s.
Charles Pretty had married Mary Hall in Buriton in 1943. Mary’s family had run the Buriton village shop and Post Office. Later her twin brother George Hall ran the Buriton shop.
Charles and Mary Pretty moved to Steep Stores and Post Office after the Luff family had left. They ran the Stores in 1960-70s and were probably there when they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 1968. The shop became known as ‘Pritt’s’ to generations of pupils from Bedales School, who frequented it on a daily basis to stock up on their supplies of food.
The Pretty family of Steep Stores are fondly remembered by a number of older Steep villagers.
